DUBAI, Dec 10  - A Dubai-based scratch handicap golfer has won the lucky draw to play alongside Michelle Wie during the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Pro Am at the Emirates Golf Club on Tuesday, December 13.

Ricky Dominguez, the winner of the online Michelle Wie Pro Am competition, which generated a tremendous response, was drawn by Mohamed Juma Buamaim, Vice Chairman and CEO golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organizers of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.

Dominguez will join two other amateurs in a four-ball led by the American star in the traditional curtain-raiser to the season-ending Ladies European Tour event.

“I am pretty excited about playing with Michelle. She is a supremely-gifted golfer who has done wonders to raise the profile of women's golf,” said Dominguez, the golf division manager at Sun and Sand Sports, the official distributor of Nike golf products in the GCC.

“It will be fun to tee it up with an athlete who is one of our (Nike) top endorsement stars. It's a great coincidence. I just can't believe my luck,” said the 30-year-old Spaniard, who started playing golf when he was just eight years old.

"I signed up for the online competition with little hope of actually being selected. What a shock I received when I was contacted by golf in DUBAi with the news that I have won. I immediately had visions of the first tee with Michelle,” said an ecstatic Dominguez.

"I would like to thank 'golf in DUBAi' for coming up with this competition and wish them all the best for the tournament. I hope I will be able to learn a few more golf tricks while watching Michelle play up close and personal."

'golf in DUBAi' was delighted with the overwhelming response to the competition. "The very intention behind organizing this competition was to get fans, who themselves are golfers, involved with the tournament," said Mohamed Juma Buamaim.

"It's quite encouraging to see how they have responded to the competition. I would like to thank all them for their participation. I hope Ricky will have memories to savour from the tournament," he added.

'golf in DUBAi' is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Emirates NBD, Gulf News, Jumeirah, Mercedes-Benz and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi's drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
